Nice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Nice classified as World Heritage

Nice is now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as a “winter resort city of the Riviera” for its architectural, landscape and urban heritage.

The classified area covers a little more than 500 hectares, including the Promenade des Anglais, by the sea.

A small town in the kingdom of Piedmont-Sardinia, Nice was chosen at the beginning of the 19th century by the English aristocracy as a favored winter destination for its mild climate.

The city developed with the opening of boulevards, parks and promenades to attract the English, Russians, Germans, Austro-Hungarians and other wealthy Europeans on holiday. Luxury villas and hotels then flourished across the city, and the Riviera took off to become the world-famous tourist destination of today.

City of Nice

An exceptional heritage rightly praised and recognized by UNESCO after 10 years of effort.

Going out in Nice

It starts with an aperitif then a dinner and a trendy club or cabaret or club on the port of Nice or in Old Nice and it ends on the beach admiring the sunrise.

Both elegant with its beautiful buildings and popular in its old neighborhoods, generous and lively, proud of its independent past, Nice will amaze you with its personality, its dynamism, its passion for arts and culture.

Nice has a thousand and one surprises in store…

One of the simplest ways to discover it is to take the little tourist train from the Albert 1er garden / avenue des Phocéens which will take you for an initial overview of the city and then return to see the monuments that seduced you.

We really like the beautiful colorful facades of old Nice or the very elaborate ones of the Promenade des Anglais, the city center and Cimiez: today one of the chic districts of Nice, once a vacation spot for the rich and powerful of this world.

Visiting and discovering Nice

We love its monuments (Garibaldi beach, Venus fountain on Place Massena, etc.), its churches (Russian church, Ste Réparate Cathedral in Old Nice).

Its gardens (garden of the green flow, Phoenix Park, Gairaut Waterfall, Le jardin du Château, etc.), its walking paths which connect the hills to the city center, but also its museums (Chagall museum, Picasso museum, museum of Asian arts, MAMAC or museum of prehistory of terra amata), its artists, its traditions, its local crafts, and its international gastronomy with flavors of sunny vegetables, basil and olive oil.

Finally, it seduces you with the beauty of its neighborhoods, its unique light and the mildness of its climate and its beaches are superb…

Gastronomy from Nice

Authentic Nissard cuisine is our favorite at locations-06.fr

What are the Niçoise specialties?

Socca: A chickpea flour pancake cooked over a wood fire to be enjoyed hot, sprinkled with a pinch of pepper and accompanied by a glass of rosé wine, preferably from Bellet.
Panisses: kinds of fries made with chickpea flour).

Nice stuffed vegetables: onions, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplants stuffed with a mixture of meat and rice and cooked gently in the oven, a treat both hot and cold
Niçoise stew: beef cooked with tomatoes, red wine, onions and herbs to savor after slow cooking in a casserole dish.
I could also talk to you about trouchia, gnocchi, merda de can (gnocchi with chard), ravioli, pasta, Lactarius sanguifluus in oil, red mullet flans, grilled sea bass, confit lamb, rabbit hunter, tomato tart, Niçoise tripe, etc.
And to finish, ice creams and sorbets with sun-drenched flavors (honey, verbena, violet, rose, etc.). My favorite is orange blossom. It must be said that we produce a little bit of orange blossom water thanks to the orange trees planted around our locations-06.fr gites).
And if you don’t like ice cream, you will enjoy the ganses or chard pie.
