La Confiserie Florian in Pont du Loup, an idea for a visit during your holidays on the Côte d’Azur

La Confiserie Florian in Pont du Loup

I am 49 years old and for as long as I can remember I have remembered this wonderful confectionery from the Gorges du Loup.

Confiserie Florian is present in Nice, Grasse and Gourdon. But for us living in the Grasse hinterland, the one in our heart is that of Pont du Loup.

At the heart of this exceptional site, the know-how of the Florian confectionery has been passed down and improved. Here, between the Gorges du Loup torrent and the mountains of the hinterland, the golden fruits of the Riviera have been transformed for more than half a century into ideal delicacies.

Witnesses of a bygone mythical era, these candied fruits are still a feast for the eye and taste. Today, like yesterday, we find sweets for the whole family at the confiserie.

Come on, let me launch into a small, non-exhaustive catalog of their treasures.

First when we visit we arrive in the room where the crystallized flowers are made.

These are leaves and flowers that have been dried in an oven then dipped in sugar and then recolored.

The green verbena which comes from the Grasse plan from an organic farmer, the violet which comes from a farmer from Tourrettes whose family has been well known for 3 generations of growing violets and finally the rose which captivates us with so many flavors …

Then we arrive in the room where the jams and candied fruits are made.

There are large casserole dishes from which tangy odors escape. The confectioners are busy, each with their own task, to prepare dishes for us that were once reserved for kings. We discover salad bowls full of candied fruits, each with its own color: oranges, melon, cherries, citron… and the jams: fig, clementines, 3 citrus fruits…

The most surprising? rose petal confit.

The fruitiest? tangerine jam

The newest? verbena and lavender confit.

For lavender, Confiserie Florian sources its supplies from the brand new Lancôme property in Grasse…

On the ground floor, the 3rd room is dedicated to sour candies which are coated with sugar in a large copper concrete mixer…enough to leave the children with lasting memories.

On the first floor of this building we continue the visit through the chocolate room where a lady dips orangettes in chocolate…and on the shelves are orangettes and chocolates of different flavors.

Then in the next room, the little child in us dreams of plunging his hand into one of the white bins from which Florian’s little hands fill the candy bags. If I were in the imaginary kingdom of candy, would I put my hand in the lollipop bin, the chocolate olive bin or the nougat bin??? I hesitate. Maybe all 3, and the others too. All the others. Yum.

Finally this lovely visit which was enhanced by the viewing of short films on the various televisions ends in the large room which is an Ali-Baba’s cave where many hostesses rush to make me taste everything that is hidden in the many packages….

When my gourmet visit to Florian ends I choose to complete it with a visit to their pretty garden with many species and such beautiful views.

So THANK YOU LA CONFISERIE FLORIAN for your welcome.
