Walk on the Cavillore plateau
Just a 15-minute drive from our gites www.locations-06.fr we propose a hike to the PLATEAU DE CAVILLORE.
The Cavillore limestone plateau lies above Gourdon, one of the 3 villages in the Alpes-Maritimes classified as ” Most Beautiful Villages in France “, along with Ste Agnès and Coaraze.
Admire the landscape of srublands, holm oaks and conifers.
The route follows an ancient Roman road, past terraces to the Barres de Cavillore, where you’ll find an ancient troglodytic dwelling: La Forteresse, built into a sheer drop of over two hundred meters (beware, you’ll need to be roped up to access it via a very narrow passage).
The return via the Trou du Mouton follows the edge of the plateau to the Col Est de Cavillore and then back to the starting point on the D12.
It’s a short hike of around 3 hours, with a very gradual and gentle ascent.
450m ascent over 5 kms.
The route is simple, of medium difficulty, well secured and easy to follow.
The recommended map is Carte TOP 25 n° 3643 ET – Cannes, Grasse & Côte d’Azur.
We love going to the Plateau de Cavillore, where paragliding enthusiasts take to the skies and enjoy superb panoramic views all the way to the sea.
