Visit Gourdon
The village of Gourdon
In an exceptional site, Gourdon “la Sarrasine”, a village classified among the Most Beautiful Villages in France, is perched on its rock which overlooks the Loup valley by more than 500 meters. This wild village is very pleasant with its castle, its old restored houses and the liveliness of the artisan workshops.
The village: near the car parks, the St Pons Chapel (12th century) rests on the old wheat crushing area, recently converted into a medieval garden where several dozen Mediterranean species are eaten. The ramparts lead to Place du Portal then to the village. The boutiques of Gourdon exude the work of passionate artisans: glassmakers, silk painters, painting galleries, perfume creators, soap and gingerbread makers, adorning the streets with a thousand colors and scents. It’s hard not to succumb to the temptation of a little souvenir gift.
Take the rue des écoles which leads to the Sainte Catherine chapel and the oldest house in Gourdon, the Maison du Chevalier, whose door is decorated with foliage carved in wood and the facade with a beautiful sundial. St Vincent’s Church, built between the 10th and 12th centuries, contains an original font and relics of St Vincent, St Luce and St Just. Under the main altar, tombs of several lords of Gourdon. Finally, enjoy the panoramic view of the bay of Cannes and the Côte d’Azur from the Italian border to the Massif des Maures, with Corsica on the horizon.

Lavender fields on the Côte d'Azur
Without going as far as the Valensole plateau, Marie’s lavender grove is one of the rare lavender fields in the Alpes Maritimes. 20 minutes from our Bar sur Loup gîtes, it is a haven of peace and calm to be enjoyed without moderation.
